Earthquake Strikes Lombok Again, PKPU Human Initiative Rescue Team Takes Emergency Handling

Lombok Amid the emergency handling of the 6.4-magnitude earthquake which happened before, particularly in North Lombok and East Lombok regency, suddenly people were jolted by a bigger earthquake. The 7-magnitude earthquake that hit West Nusa Tenggara on Sunday (5/8/2018) at 18.46 West Indonesia Time (WIB) caused a large impact. Until Monday midnight (6/8/2018) at 02.30 WIB, according to the data, 82 people had died, hundreds of others injured and thousands of houses were damaged. Thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes to a safer place.
PKPU Human Initiative Rescue team, which has been in the location since the earthquake warning was issued for the first time, especially in North Tanjung Lombok Utara, and immediately took emergency action. They coordinated with local volunteers and other parties to take a damage assessment in the affected location, assist evacuation and emergency handling due to the earthquake.
Since last evening, we have helped the evacuation of the victims. We have also opened some posts for the emergency handling, one of PKPU HI Rescue team members, Subur Rohjinawi said in his report.
“The number of the victims is expected to increase. The amount of building damage is still counted. The dark night and the cut-off communication remain the obstacles of activities in the field.”
“The evacuation is still hampered by low lighting. But we keep moving to anticipate victims that possibly have not been saved”, Subur revealed.
The main focus at the moment is search, rescue and aid for the earthquake victims and the fulfillment of the basic needs. Meanwhile, the current urgent needs are medical workers, clean water, food, blankets, mats, tents, fast food, trauma healing service and other basic needs.
