Jakarta Flood Emergency
Severe flooding in Jakarta has left the capital underwater.
As of 6th January 2020, 501,567 people were hit – causing thousands of families to be left homeless and struggling and 66 people to have lost their lives.
Torrential rains have been pounding the greater Jakarta region since New Year’s Eve, causing 62,453 people to be evacuated to temporary shelters as stated by the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management.
According to BNPB, as of January 4th, 2020, there were 1,317 houses severely damaged, 7 moderately damaged and 544 slightly damaged. 5 public facilities, 3 education facilities and 2 worship facilities were also affected by the high-intensity rains and strong winds.
We and our partners in Indonesia are responding to this disaster by distributing clean water, food packages, hygiene kits, free medical and psychosocial support to the victims.
